As from 2019 Sevolt brings together experts in the field of solar PV technology, marine energy and environment to build pioneering offshore solar energy systems.

We believe that Seavolt can be an innovative solution for green local energy production and provide further diversification of energy markets.

Launched by Tractebel, DEME and Jan De Nul as a VLAIO-supported Blue Cluster innovation project, the development received further support from the Federal Government under the scheme of the Energietransitiefonds (EcoMPV) and the Belgian Relaunch Plan complemented with private investment by the partners.

The test installation was launched in the Belgian North Sea in September 2023 to gather data on the performance of the solar panels and behavior of the floater. Where the field testing largely confirmed the initial research, it also provided crucial data and understanding for the future development of the technology.

Seavolt’s ambition is to develop a technology to host PV panels in harsh offshore environments allowing the integration of large scale PV within e.g. existing and future offshore windfarms in the Northsea. As such this robust technology can contribute to the unlocking of the enormous solar potential in offshore waters, in Europe and beyond.

Beginning of 2026, Seavolt was created as an independent startup to pursue the further roadmap towards commercialization. This independent company is launched and led by founder and CEO Tine Boon, who has been the driving force behind Seavolt since it’s inception. This setup gives best chances to the technology to accomplish the further innovation trajectory and reach successful implementation.
